On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Midocean University participated in the National Consultative meeting organized by the Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Union of Comoros, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in the capital city of Moroni. The meeting was part of the preparations for the upcoming “National Education Forum”, scheduled to take place on July 2, 2025. Midocean University was represented by Dr. Mohammad Ahmad, President of the University, and Eng. Ahmad Al-Baz, Executive Vice President for Technical Affairs.
The meeting was part of a series of national consultations bringing together educational institutions and key stakeholders to review the current state of education in the Comoros and propose practical policies for its development. The meeting focused on the unified reporting template for objective reports, which will form the basis for the National Education Forum’s deliberations. The proposed report structure was reviewed, covering diagnosis, policies, challenges, solutions, recommendations, and opportunities.
During the meeting, Midocean University presented several practical proposals. These included strengthening partnerships between private and public universities through a permanent committee supervised by the Ministry. In addition, the University emphasized the need to better link education with the labor market by aligning academic programs with actual job market needs. Additionally, it highlighted the importance of supporting scientific research in private universities and encouraging their participation in scientific and professional forums organized by the Ministry, thereby enhancing their role in advancing the country’s educational sector.
Moreover, an interview was conducted with His Excellency the Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Ali, Director-General of Higher Education and Scientific Research. During the interview, they discussed mechanisms for coordination between the Ministry and private universities, as well as ways to actively and effectively involve these institutions in the development of education.
On behalf of Midocean University’s Board of Directors, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed, President of the University, expressed deep appreciation to His Excellency the Minister, commending his ongoing support for the University and private educational institutions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Midocean University reaffirmed its strong commitment to actively participate in the “National Education Forum” scheduled for July 2, 2025, pledging to play a meaningful role in shaping the next phase by providing practical, field-based insights aimed at advancing the reform and development of higher education in the Comoros.
